Thursday 21 November at 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm
A botanist by training, Sally is an experienced organic gardener, smallholder and writer. She has long been interested in the way our changing climate is impacting upon our gardens and green spaces. Her articles have appeared in numerous magazines, most recently Amateur Gardening and Bloom. Her latest books include The Resilient Garden and Allotment (2024), The Climate Change Garden (2023), The Healthy Vegetable Garden (2021) and Living on an Acre or Less (2016) with more books in the pipeline.
Sally is an experienced speaker and regularly gives talks to garden clubs and horticultural societies, as well as garden festivals including RHS Hampton Court, Toby Buckland’s Flower Festival, the London Permaculture Festival, and the NW Pacific Garden and Flower Festival in Seattle
Her talk will look at how our climate is changing and ways of deal with too much and too little water in the garden, the effect of the changes on orchards and bulbs, and the role of trees in our gardens, plus ways to make our gardens and allotments more resilient.
Lectures will take place on the third Thursday of the month at the Frank Theatre, Wills Physics Laboratory, Tyndall Avenue, Bristol BS8 1TL. Lectures are free to Friends on production of their membership card and students on production of their student card. Guests will be asked for a donation (suggested £5).
