October Friends’ Lecture – The Bishop’s Palace Gardens Past, Present and Future

Join James Cross, head gardener at The Bishop’s Palace, as he discusses The Bishops Palace Gardens Past, Present and Future.
James trained at Hadlow College in Kent and worked his sandwich year (and part time to the end of his course) at Sissinghurst Castle Gardens. He then worked a placement at Sheffield Park Gardens before starting his first job at The Courts Gardens in Wiltshire. After six years he moved to the Bishop’s Palace where he has now worked for 19 years.
‘It was a blank canvas when I started and in my talk we will look at how the 14 acres have been shaped in that time with the inspiration and thinking behind the developments and the recognition of becoming an RHS Partner Garden’.
Lectures will take place on the third Thursday of the month at the Frank Theatre, Wills Physics Laboratory, Tyndall Avenue, Bristol, BS8 1TL. (This is where lectures took place before the pandemic.)
Lectures are free to Friends on production of their membership card.
Guests will be asked for a donation (suggested £5).
Attendees can use the following University car parks: Sports Centre, The Hawthorns, Woodland Road (12, 15, 17 & 19) and University Walk
There is free on-street parking (ticket required) from 6:30pm on these streets: St Michael’s Park, Woodland Road (north), Priory Road
There is metered on-street parking on Tyndall Avenue, Elton Road and University Road.
