Apple day: help make a proper Bristol cider!

Sunday 5 October at 11:00 am to 3:00 pm

A pile of rosy apples.Help make a proper Bristol Cider!

More apples than you can use? Donate them to be part of our local cider project and enjoy a free cider!

Apple Day aims to reduce wastage of garden apples, bringing together the community and The Cider Box taprooms for this one-day event here at the University of Bristol Botanic Garden.

How it works:

Give your apples a rinse (especially if they’re grubby) and bag them up. Bruised apples are fine but please no rotten apples! Please bring apples from unsprayed tree-no pesticides or chemical treatments; homegrown or allotment apples are ideal.

There are two ways to donate. Firstly you can donate at one the community hubs. The community hubs are Bramble Farm in Knowle, Hillfields Park Community Centre, and Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust. Apples will be collected from each hub and taken to the Botanic Garden for Apple Day. You can drop off your apples as follows:

Secondly, donate on Apple Day at the Botanic Garden:

  • University of Bristol Botanic Garden, Sunday 5th October, 11am until 3pm (Entry free to the Garden if donating apples). Please sign up to a morning or afternoon slot to let us know when you’ll be coming (booking not essential, but preferable). Please sign up here.

A 5kg donation of apples will give you 1 bottle of cider which you can collect  from The Cider Box in 2026! (Maximum 5 bottles per person)

All apple pomace will be donated to a local farm.

  1. Hi Jo; no need to book just come along. As far as Alumnus proof goes, people bring different proof such as emails from the alumni group, degree certificates, alumnus newsletter etc.

  2. You appear to have the wrong collection point for Lockleaze listed above on this web page. My understanding is the collection will be at the Hub in Lockleaze not at the orchard. To Lockleaze Orchard is presently closed off to the public generally and we are not planning to be there to open it up on the collection days.
