AGM + Lecture by Maisie Brett

Thursday 17 March 2022 at 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

South African display with thatched traditional African roundhouse.

The AGM of the Friends of the Botanic Garden will be followed by a lecture by Maisie Brett, University of Bristol Life Sciences PhD student.

Maisie did her masters project on plants and pollinators in South Africa. Invasive plants now cover over 10% of South Africa’s land mass. In this talk Maisie will explore the role of invasive acacias in endangered fynbos habitats, and how they alter the pollination of native plants in a global biodiversity hotspot.

Due to the continuing uncertainty regarding Covid-19 restrictions, the Friends’ lectures will continue to be through Zoom for the autumn. This situation will be reviewed in the light of developments including the University of Bristol confirming that their lecture theatres are once again available.

The AGM will start 7pm, and the lecture approx 7:30pm. The link to the Zoom lecture is shown below and will also be sent out on the Friends’ enews. Please note that there is a limit of 100 people which will be on a first come first served basis with no pre-booking.
