Herb talk – Back to our senses with Chris Roe

Saturday 5 October at 10:00 am to 1:30 pm

| £35

Mostly when we learn about herbs we rely upon information from a book and we think of their medicinal action in terms of biochemistry. But what can we learn about herbs from our own senses? During this workshop we will look at the 5 tastes and how taste can have specific physiologic effects as well as telling us something about its medicinal action. In the past people believed in the doctrine of signatures that a plant conveyed in its form and growth habit something of its medicinal virtue, these days this belief is seen to be a remnant of a superstitious age but there are some curious connections to be made.

This workshop is about reconnecting and learning to trust in our sensory experience of plants and how this can be a way to get to know medicinal plants alongside more formal learning.

Chris Roe was trained at the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine and has his own medicinal herb garden in the North of Bristol from which her runs his herbal apothecary.
