Vegetable growing course

Monday 2 March at 6:30 pm to Monday 6 April at 8:30 pm

| £120

Growing vegetables is hugely rewarding and with more people taking on an allotment for the first
time or growing vegetables in a small home plot. Informally taught without exams or tests this
evening class will give you a chance to grow your own vegetables with confidence and meet like-
minded growers from the surrounding area. Our expert will explain the basics of setting
up a growing space; including maintaining a healthy soil, crop planning, crop rotation and plant
families, common pest and diseases, ground clearing, bed construction and siting of perennials.
The course will provide first time growers and allotment owners enough information to get them
started and achieve success within the first year. It will also help those who have been growing for
some time iron out any problems they may be experiencing.

Dave Hamilton has an incurable but thankfully mild obsession with edible plants.  He’s been growing his own food for nearly two decades in that time he’s worked on market gardens, allotments, large greenhouses, poly-tunnels and small back garden plots.   He is a trained sustainable horticulturalist and nutritionist and regularly leads a Guardian Masterclass in Wild Food.  He’s had five books published including two which focus on urban vegetable growing and has written for numerous gardening magazines including Grow Your Own, Gardener’s World and Guardian Weekend.
