Bee and pollination festival – CANCELLED
Saturday 5 September 2020 at 10:00 am to Sunday 6 September 2020 at 5:00 pm
Bees are still buzzing around the Botanic Garden, but we have taken the decision very sadly to cancel this year’s Festival owing to the restrictions to protect people from the ongoing effects of Covid 19 pandemic. This has not been an easy decision to take. We realise many people will be greatly disappointed at this news. Since it started ten years ago with a handful of exhibitors in the walled garden car park, the weekend event has grown both in size and success to become a major Festival in the south west’s scientific and horticultural calendar. A great many people are involved including, the Bristol Branch of the Avon Beekeepers who hold their annual Honey Show at the garden; University of Bristol Biological Sciences researchers explain their latest findings; numerous wildlife charities and plant nurseries participate and we have a packed programme of international speakers throughout the weekend. In addition to the exhibitors, we have a whole host of very valuable volunteers at the Festival.
Typically, over the weekend, we have more than 2000 visitors as well as exhibitors and helpers, making social distancing, particularly in the main marquee difficult.
We realise that a great many of you will be saddened at this decision, we certainly are. The Bee and Pollination Festival is one of the highlights of the year for the Botanic Garden team and volunteers. It is small consolation for you that we are busy discussing plans for next year’s Festival. Every day there seems to be some exciting news story from the bee and insect world, so we will have plenty to talk about next year, plus exciting demonstrations all set within a beautiful garden.
In the meantime, we would like to thank you all for your support of the Botanic Garden. It is very greatly appreciated.
